MakerWare solves the problem of warping with a secondary disk

As an emerging technology, 3D printing has various problems, such as patents, taxes, and security. For the average user, the most direct problem is the problem of curling. The problem of the curling edge becomes more pronounced when printing large-size models or models with larger bottom areas.

Reasons for the edge of 3D printing

The root cause is that the bottom edge of the model is not firmly adhered to the base, and the rapid decrease of temperature will cause the material to shrink, so the problem of warping occurs. The influencing factors are: uneven preheating of the platform chassis, slow printing speed, and printed materials. Elasticity, insufficient shrinkage, etc.

Tip: Use Disk MakerWare to help avoid model warping problems

Users on Thingiverse, Ctheroux and whpthomas, advocate the use of Helper Disks to avoid model warping. The slicing engine interprets these small discs as part of the model. These parts are also easily removed after printing.

Step 1: First, make sure you are using the latest version of MakerWare.

Step 2: Open MakerWare and import the model. The schematic is the first layer of the Rodessa House model, which has many corners.

Step 3: The next step is to add a secondary disk. These auxiliary trays are placed in the middle of the tray by default, so remove the house model. Select the model and click "Move". Drag the model away from the center.

Step 4: In the "File" menu, open the "Examples" menu. Select the size of the "Helper Disks" file. For this model, we use the small auxiliary disk.

Step 5: A small dish will appear in the center of the tray. You can repeat the fourth step to get more auxiliary disks multiple times, or select the current small disk, copy and paste it to create more auxiliary disks. For this model, we need six auxiliary disks.

Step 6: Remove all the auxiliary disks and move the main model to the middle. Note that you can move multiple models at the same time by pressing the Shift key in the "Move" state. Then place the auxiliary tray on the corner of the house and only press a part.

Step 7: Press “Make It” to start the slice print model. You don't need to integrate these small plates into one model. These auxiliary trays are easily removed when the model is printed. Normally, these small plates are easily removed from the model, and you can also cut them with a tool like a pliers.

Step 8: I look forward to sharing your success stories.
