Year-round tomato planting method

Red persimmons enjoy long days, sunny and warm summers. If you live in New England, you will know how to grow tomatoes (and many other fruits and vegetables) in the backyard garden.

When the backyard farm started, we wanted to have a delicious tomato that matured all year round. Building a greenhouse is the first step. In Madison, Maine, whether it's a heat wave or a blizzard, create an environment that is good for growing delicious fruit. But only one greenhouse is not enough to pick tomatoes every day, we need to plant a variety of crops in the greenhouse to ensure that the tomatoes mature. This process is called “overwork”, which is the secret behind planting tomatoes all year round.

Intercropping

To make the market available for tomatoes all year round, we use a practice called nesting. When a tomato crop is flowering, we plant a seedling behind a mature tomato crop.

Looking at the picture below, you can see that the seedlings are only a few feet tall, with a larger crop behind them, and red ripe tomatoes.

When the mature tomato crop is finished with tomatoes, the previous seedlings are ready to grow tomatoes.

Then we get rid of the old crops, let the new crops absorb all the sun and nutrients, and grow more delicious tomatoes!

Repeat this process twice a year to make sure our tomatoes are grown all year round.
