Sticker printing color problem

Color correction is interlocking. From the scanner, screen, output to printing, each layer conversion step has a color shift problem. The scanner scans a color card for calibration, and corrects it by comparing the theoretical color with the actual scanned color. For the screen, a small camera attached to the screen is used to correct it by reading the color values of specific color blocks on the screen. Most of the hardware and software mentioned above do not exist, so they cannot be corrected at all. Most people can correct brightness and contrast at best. This software is attached to Photoshop 5. Those who install it can set it.

RGB to CMYK color shift problem

Here I want to emphasize again that printing is printed with four-color inks of magenta, cyan, yellow, and black (please refer to the introduction of colors in the home page), so the colors are specified by CMYK, as long as CMYK is determined, it means not to do it. Offset printing ink ratio is determined, the color usually does not have too much problem (in the view of the average person). However, the colors in the computer are expressed in RGB mode. Therefore, to print RGB colors, a color conversion step is required. Two problems will occur here:

The first is that the ink cannot print all RGB colors. Usually high-brightness colors, fluorescent colors, metallic luster can not be printed, then the program had to use the closest CMYK instead. If you find a triangle exclamation mark in the selected color square when you use Photoshop, or an exclamation mark is added after the CMYK value, it means that the color cannot be printed.

The second question is, what conversion standard is used when converting RGB to CMYK? Even if an RGB color can be converted to CMYK, it does not mean that the actual ink color will be the same as the color displayed on the screen. Usually the biggest problem is that it occurs on cyan. Without correction, the cyan color (R: 0 G: 255 B: 255) seen on the screen is a very bright color (left-hand color block on the right), but the actual cyan color used for printing (C: 100% M : 0% Y: 0% K: 0%) is a completely different feeling (the right color block on the right), and the use of a large number of cyan colors, such as blue and green, has serious color cast problems.

solution

1. Use CMYK to specify color

Some software, such as CorelDRAW and Photoshop, will specifically consider the correctness of the conversion between RGB and CMYK. As long as CMYK is used to specify the color directly in the software, the results will be quite close to the actual printing, so use CMYK as much as possible Mode to operate. Photoshop can convert the image file to CMYK mode for editing (MENU: Image> Mode> CMYK color), so you can completely avoid the use of unprintable colors. The disadvantage is that most filters cannot work in CMYK mode. The method had to be temporarily converted to RGB mode, and then switched back to CMYK mode after using the filter.

2. Query color with color rendering table

Another way is to use the printed color rendering table to query the actual printed colors. The color rendering table is a reference template for color values. It lists various combinations of CMYK for query. Therefore, when you want to choose a specific color, first find the desired color from the color table, and then enter the CMYK value marked on the table into the software. For the average person, this is the most valid color correction method. In actual use, of course, it is impossible to check all the colors that appear on the layout one by one, as long as the key points (such as text, borders) or large-scale color filling can be confirmed.

Color rendering table is a very important tool, but the price is not cheap, depending on the manufacturer, paper size and number of colors, the price ranges from 300 to 1000, and most bookstores are not available. Go to a bookstore that sells art books. Otherwise, every year at the computer show, there will be a book dealer of art drawings, and there will also be sold in the booth.
