By the end of 2000, Zhejiang had a total of 116 copper and aluminum processing enterprises with annual output of more than 500 tons of copper and aluminum processing products, and had an annual output of 764,900 tons of copper, with an annual output of aluminum and aluminum alloy castings. The comprehensive production capacity of 120,000 tons ranks first and third respectively in China.
According to the survey, the utilization of waste copper in Zhejiang and its enterprises are mainly concentrated in Ningbo, Jinhua and Shaoxing. The number of copper processing companies using scrap copper in these three regions and the utilization of scrap copper accounted for 67.44% and 75.88% of the total number of waste copper scrap processing and utilization companies in the province. The recycling, processing, and utilization of waste aluminum are highly concentrated in the Jinhua area. The number of recycled aluminum production and processing companies and the use of waste miscellaneous aluminum in the Jinhua area accounted for 71.67% and 76.77% of the total amount of regenerated aluminum production and processing enterprises in the province and the total amount of waste miscellaneous aluminum. Yongkang City has 118 companies with an annual output of over 500 tons of recycled aluminum and processed products, and uses 226,500 tons of waste aluminum. Yongkang City's reclaimed aluminum production and processing enterprises accounted for 65.56% of the total number of enterprises in the province. The waste miscellaneous aluminum used accounted for 77.98% of the province's utilization.
