DuPont Develops Enhanced Nylon Recovery Process

The DuPont Engineering Plastics Development Division has developed a closed-loop recycling process for recycling glass-reinforced nylon 6 and nylon 66, which will be used in the automotive industry. DuPont and its Japanese partners are conducting an experiment to produce automobile radiators and water tanks with recycled nylon.
Dupont exhibited this Composite Recycling Technology (CRT) at the annual Automotive Engineering Association Show in Detroit in March. An experimental CRT laboratory was established in Mississauga. This process can recover nylon 6 and nylon 66 from carpets, fibers to glass fibers and mineral-reinforced molded products. DuPont officials said that the CRT is a patented technology, and DuPont has already tested this, and DuPont believes that ammonialysis is not economical.
DuPont is working with Japan's Denso Corporation to study the use of this technology in automotive radiator components, using its proprietary cleaning technology to clean and recycle post-consumer nylon for the production of 100% regrind radiators and water tanks.
