Wood Edge Sealing Technology

For furniture such as plywood, particle board, sandwich panels and paste the surface decoration board and other board types, generally have to be sealed in the end of the board. The purpose of the main purpose is to increase the structural strength of the end edge of the sheet, prevent the edges of the decorative sheet from being damaged by water wet deformation and peeling, and can also be used for beautification and decoration. At present, the edge sealing glues of wood are all manufactured using special equipment.

Adhesive process is as follows:

(1) The edges of the wood substrate to be trimmed are trimmed to have a flat surface and the moisture content is controlled to be below 15%.

(2) Prepare edge sealing material. Commonly used edge sealing materials are wood, polyvinyl chloride, resin-treated woodgrain paper, and the like. The shape can be divided into long shape and roll shape. The width of the edge seal material should be 3mm larger than the thickness of the substrate to be edged.

(3) Hot-melt adhesives (formulation: ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer 100, rosin 75, barium sulfate 75, antioxidant 1.25), softening point should be between 80-135 °C, melt viscosity 1Pa.s , to ensure that there is sufficient initial bonding strength and sufficient clustering strength.

(4) The special equipment for edge banding is linear and curved, etc. The most commonly used is an automatic linear edger. The hot-melt adhesive melted and flowed onto the coating roller, the temperature was controlled at 200-220°C, the coating amount was about 200g/m2, and the lamination time was about 0.8-1.5s.
