Taiwan research and development of bacteria bio-plastic

The Institute of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics of the Yuanzhi University in Taiwan has recently conducted strategic cooperation with Far East Group’s Donglian Chemical to jointly fund NT$10 million (NT$33.3 and NT$1) to study the use of bacteria to produce plastics.
This project named "Development and Application of Microbial Synthetic Polymers PHAs" is scheduled to yield results in 3-4 years.
According to reports, Bacterial Bio-Plastics is a bio-technology product that the world has just started to research and develop. The United States's Po-Kai and Metabolix Biotech Co. have prototype products. PHAs polyhydroxyalkanoates are bioplastics that are biodegradable, biocompatible and thermoplastic after processing. Through biotechnology, biochemical engineering, and materials engineering, PHAs polyester-based products have mechanical properties between high-density polyethylene and low-density polyethylene for a wide range of applications. They can be used as packaging materials for film, fiber, and film. , non-woven fabrics, elastomers, etc.
